Hi David Hyde,
Since the Quake2 engine source was opened and released under the GPL licence by idsoftware, there are a lot of hot new developpement using this engine.
Most of these contributions are engine based, but the job you have done on the gameplay side in the past with the Lazarus mod is awesome.
But for us to use your contribution, it must be clearly relicenced to being compatible with the GPL licence.
Knightmare says that he has already asked you about this subject in the past, and he says that you are ok. But infortunally he has loosen your email answer, and it would be better for the GPL Quake2 community to have a clear confirmation from you.
Of course this email confirmation (I hope you will send it) will only apply to your own development. Pieces of code used inside Lazarus that come from third party coders (including rogue, fmod ...) are not concerned. Third party code that is incompatible with the GPL licence has already been removed or rewriten by Knighmare himself.
A clear confirmation will allow the GPL Q2 community to definitivelly adopt Lazarus.
Last year I sended a similar mail to Steve Yeager the author of the AceBot Q2 mod, The result of his answer (
http://www.aftermoon.net/?page=20020730_acebot) is that now the AceBot source code is the base for a lot of recent projects.
For your info :
http://www.quakesrc.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1360A simple mail saying that you are ok for the use of your code under a GPL licence could be enought. Thanks in advance
