Yes, the Torque engine is very good. Not only because it is technically a good engine, but also because of it's community of developers.
It's like with the Quake2 community here at QSG (good ambience), but with a lot more people. Even if each projects are closed source, the community share tons of code/script/content (the engine itself is open source for licencee).
The developers are more pros, a lots of little companies, shareware profesionals, old engineers from game industry who dream to be free ... like me
If you want to take a look, there is an engine demo on the GarageGames site. If you have a recent graphic card you can also try the TSE demo (Torque shader engine, ala Doom3).
