Quake II Retexture [Release 1]
I am working on an overly ambitious project to retexture the entirety of Quake II with high(er) resolution textures. You may know that there is already a (mostly) complete high-res pack available for Q2; so why am I doing this? The short answer is that they suck. Here's some screenshots. Don't mind the white textures, those are textures in my cue to be replaced. http://www.zethzune.com/q2/screenshots/20100411_191308.jpghttp://www.zethzune.com/q2/screenshots/20100411_191317.jpghttp://www.zethzune.com/q2/screenshots/20100411_191324.jpghttp://www.zethzune.com/q2/screenshots/20100411_191336.jpghttp://www.zethzune.com/q2/screenshots/20100411_191343.jpghttp://www.zethzune.com/q2/screenshots/20100411_191352.jpghttp://www.zethzune.com/q2/screenshots/20100411_191509.jpgI'm nearly done with the "e1u1" textures, at which point I'll release them for download. Re: Quake II Retexture
Good idea Zethzune! I would be happy to promote this kind of work on the coopordie main page when it's done

looks nice and you can really see the difference between the old and new. i like those box textures. i havent much played any hi res textures engines exept EGL. i think egl is good but theres some old texturres in it so i dont really like seeing old textures when theres hi res next to it.

Nice textures! But your textures will need to be much better then in usual hight res texts packs, if you want them to become popular. mik1 wrote: i think egl is good but theres some old texturres in it so i dont really like seeing old textures when theres hi res next to it. EGL doesn't add custom textures, its just making your quake 2 effects, shaders, shadows and other things look better. If you see old texts next to hi res ones, you must have messed something. (omg andrei can do almost evrything with q2 D: D: D:)

Re: Quake II Retexture
Thank you, everyone I have 75 of the textures from e1u1 completed, of which about 30 are unique textures. By "unique textures" I mean that they are not variations of a similar texture; like red paneling, red paneling with caution stripe, and green or yellow paneling - all simple variations on the PSD file. e1u1 progress is currently 17.9% It's a long way to go, but many are simple variations; however I am a perfectionist and rarely settle for simple. I feel that having the exact same texture in a different color scheme is lazy, so I try to make variations have a little of their own uniqueness. You can see what I mean in a close comparison of my crate textures. http://www.algernonsystems.com/zethzune/q2/comparison_crate.jpgLuckily for me (work) and for you (waiting), the other units have less textures!

the unique textures are nice, try doing a lot . also, what "drawing" xD tool are you using to make these textures? KEMPER wrote: (omg andrei can do almost evrything with q2 D: D: D:) well, everything that's possible (programming on quake 2 is almost impossible! try doing it: http://www.quake2.com/dll/tutorials/ http://www.quake2.com/dll/tutorials/c/c1.html. try to get lcc compiler working )

Re: Quake II Retexture
Right now I have 95 textures from e1u1 completed. To 95 from 75 in my last post isn't as much progress as I'd like to have, but I was busy the last two days. Also, I have been working on textures of which there are fewer variations, so it takes longer to produce each texture. http://www.zethzune.com/q2/screenshots/20100414_140822.jpghttp://www.zethzune.com/q2/screenshots/20100414_140831.jpghttp://www.zethzune.com/q2/screenshots/20100414_140839.jpghttp://www.zethzune.com/q2/screenshots/20100414_140845.jpgANDREI wrote: the unique textures are nice, try doing a lot . also, what "drawing" xD tool are you using to make these textures? I use Photoshop CS3 with a Wacom Graphire 4 tablet.

Re: Quake II Retexture
Well, I'm glad you are doing so. I love having high-res textures, but you have to also take into account that sure will hurt your performance (yet to figure out to unlimit my fps cap).
And, to be hones... It's true there is like no real good hi-res textures out there.
